About the Organisation 

The European association representing the paper industry (Cepi) is a non-profit-making organisation. Cepi is headed by Director General Jori Ringman with a staff of 21 employees, based in Brussels. It has four standing committees, which take long-term strategic perspectives on the issues affecting the industry. These are the Environment and Safety, Climate Change and Energy, Forest and Recycling committees under which a number of ad-hoc issue groups operate. The Association Directors’ Group (ADG) is the senior advisory group to the Director General of Cepi and is composed of Director Generals of National Associations. 

Cepi’s prime mission and vision are: 

  • To secure pulp and paper industries competitiveness towards EU policy makers 
  • To represent the paper industry with EU institutions and Brussels based stakeholders 
  • To improve the image and visibility of the paper industry and other related industries 
  • To be the example of how competitiveness and sustainability can go hand in hand 

 

The Role 

The title of the position is Statistics Officer reporting to the Statisticts Manager as part of the Trade, Competitiveness & Business Intelligence and Statistics team that consists of 3 colleagues to date. 

Contract type: flexible, open to offer employee or independent contract – possibility for a part-time contract as well. 

Starting Date: flexible but ideally beginning of 2024. 

 

The Responsibilities: 

  • Gathering, evaluating and managing data with the purpose to be then used for reports and projects, serving two chief purposes: 
  • Support the members with data, responding to occasional queries  
  • Support the advocacy team with data, which is used as part of Cepi’s stakeholder engagement activities 
  • Contribute to the drafting of reports; from collecting data from the relevant stakeholders 
  • Coordinate with the rest of the team to support them or yourself receive support on larger sets of data/work 
  • Liaises with Cepi’s membership organisations to receive internal data sets as a key source for your work  

 

The Expectations: 

  • Ideally around 3 years of experience in completing statistical/econometric work in a professional and/or academic environment, with prior experience in dealing with manufacturing industry organisations and/or EU legislation impacting the energy-intensive industries and the respective markets to be considered an asset, but not a requirement 
  • Experience in a Brussels-based EU focused organisation is to be considered an asset as well 
  • A relevant university degree in statistics, economics, or any other degree with strong quantitative evaluation/data management elements 
  • Attention to detail, strict on deadlines and a hands-on approach 
  • Strong interest in Statistics with areal expertise in excel and data base tools 
  • It is desirable to be an EU minded person, with interest and understanding in policy 
  • Ability to develop and manage collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) 
  • Strong written and spoken English, with other languages to be considered an advantage
