About the Role

The Policy Director at the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding and managing the organization’s policy initiatives, advocacy efforts, and strategic engagement with various stakeholders. This role plays a crucial part in shaping and influencing policies that impact the corrugated cardboard manufacturing industry across Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development and Advocacy:
    • Lead the development and execution of FEFCO’s policy strategies and initiatives to promote the interests of the corrugated board manufacturing industry in Europe.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the EU and national levels that could impact the industry and proactively advocate for favourable policies.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, members, and external partners to formulate policy positions, whitepapers, and recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with EU institutions, national authorities, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Represent FEFCO in policy meetings, conferences, and industry events to advocate for the organization’s policy priorities.
    • Foster partnerships and alliances to amplify FEFCO’s influence on policy matters.
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Provide guidance to FEFCO’s leadership team and members on policy-related matters, offering insights into regulatory trends, risks, and opportunities.
    • Coordinate and guide FEFCO Regulatory Affairs Committee as well as other relevant committees composed by industry experts, and projects.
    • Anticipate policy evolution by identifying emerging issues that could impact the industry and develop proactive strategies to address them.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on policy-related topics to support FEFCO’s advocacy efforts.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, market developments, and technological advancements relevant to the corrugated cardboard manufacturing sector.
  • Communication and Outreach:
    • Cooperate with Director General and Communications Director to develop and implement communication plans to effectively convey FEFCO’s policy positions to stakeholders, including the media, policymakers, and the public.
    • Write and oversee the production of policy reports, position papers, and other communication materials.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced university degree in policy, law, business administration, economics or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a relevant area of the position.
  • Proven track record and experience in policy advocacy, preferably within an industry association, government agency, or related organization.
  • Strong understanding of European regulatory processes, legislative frameworks, and policymaking dynamics.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex policy issues simply, clearly and persuasively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, industry representatives, and advocacy groups.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize data to inform policy decisions.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to anticipate future trends and challenges impacting the corrugated cardboard manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of the packaging and/or paper industry is an asset.
