Job Description
The main objective of this position is to ensure science-based and proportionate regulation by developing strategies and positions related to regulatory developments that could impact safe production and use of nickel and nickel compounds. The focus is on EU-related regulation working with the EU Institutions and engaging in the EU policy process.
Regulations of interest are with respect to environment (e.g. water, air, site emissions, sustainability), chemicals (restrictions), product-related regulations (materials in contact with food, drinking water, etc.), occupational health. You will also advise and provide policy support to NI colleagues at global level.
You will provide strategic insight, advice and guidance to the Nickel Institute members regarding political and legislative developments, regulatory challenges and opportunities. This is done by tracking, engaging and reporting on regulatory issues potentially impacting nickel production and use within the EU and globally (UN, OECD); building stakeholder alliances for outreach towards policy-makers and regulators at EU and national level; and developing strategies to constructively engage with the European Institutions throughout the political process.
Developing and maintaining a healthy stakeholder network at EU and internationally including downstream users, end users, national authorities and EU Institutions is a key requirement. Active participation in international and regional associations and coalitions, especially Eurometaux, is required to ensure that the NI’s views are represented in broader industry strategies.
You will be expected expected to work very closely with NiPERA, the Nickel Institute’s scientific arm and with colleagues in the Brussels and global offices of the NI in order to ensure a science‐based and balanced positioning in regulatory discussions at global level.
