Role Purpose
The Senior Director, EU Public Affairs will lead the Brussels-based corporate affairs function, serving as a strategic interface between the organisation’s central leadership and European stakeholders. The successful candidate will monitor the European regulatory landscape, proactively assess policy and trade-related risks, and strengthen the organisation’s reputation as a credible contributor to Europe’s industrial, innovation, and sustainability agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advocacy & Leadership: Lead the Brussels-based public affairs function, managing a team (5) and delivering high-level strategic intelligence to senior leadership and relevant business units.
- Regulatory Intelligence: Anticipate, monitor, and analyse EU legislative developments and member state regulations impacting regulated industrial, technology, and sustainability-related sectors.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Coalition Building: Formulate and maintain high-level networks with EU institutions, member state governments, and regulatory bodies. Lead corporate representation within key trade associations, European think tanks, and industry coalitions.
- Risk & Crisis Management: Preemptively identify regulatory vulnerabilities, international trade barriers, and geopolitical shifts, executing swift risk-mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.
- Sustainability & ESG Alignment: Support global corporate ESG objectives by aligning regional advocacy with EU green transition policies, positioning the group as a constructive partner in Europe’s decarbonisation and industrial transformation agenda.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as a core liaison between central leadership, business units, technical teams, and regional stakeholders to support compliance, coordination, and consistent corporate messaging.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
- Experience: Extensive progressive experience in public affairs, corporate diplomacy, or government relations within a global corporation, international organization, or European institution. Significant senior leadership and team management track record is essential.
- Sector Expertise: Deep understanding of regulated industrial sectors, global supply chains, international trade policy, sustainability, digitalisation, and complex EU regulatory frameworks.
- Network: An active, sophisticated network of contacts across European institutions and key Brussels policy circles.
- Communication & Negotiation: Exceptional capacity to synthesize complex, technical regulatory dossiers into persuasive corporate narratives and strategic advice for non-technical executive teams.
- Education: Strong academic background in International Relations, European Studies, Law, Economics, Political Science, or a related discipline.
- Languages: Full professional fluency in English and proficiency in at least one other major European language (e.g., French, German).
- Mobility: Flexibility to travel internationally and regionally (approximately 10–20%).
