About the responsibilities

The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for scoping the global policy landscape in his/her field, crafting briefs and positions on strategic subjects, proposing the Group’s advocacy and public affairs strategy on the topic, upskilling the teams.

He/She will report directly to a VP level.

He/She will coordinate in-house experts; and will work with; or support, the major Zones.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitoring his/her priority policy and regulatory topics, including issues on chemicals and related sectors, on circularity claims, on green claims & other files;
  • Engaging cross-functional teams and experts, working closely with other members of the Public Affairs team centrally and in the markets;
  • Collaborating with the scientific teams and the Communications Managers; campaigning and developing social media and other strategies;
  • Maintaining effective relations and expanding the Group’s network among key policy stakeholders in selected forums;
  • Organizing and executing events, meetings and representing the Group in a relevant public scene that increase the Group’s visibility among decision-makers.

About the profile

  • At least 7 years (and up to 10 years) of relevant work experience within a public affair and/or strategic communications environment (e.g. government, parliamentary office, industry associations, consultancies, NGOs or similar);
  • A strong interest in working in the chemical industry and related topics;
  • Good understanding of legislative processes in main geographies: EU, USA, China;
  • University degree in Political Sciences, Communications or Science background with any other relevant degree to be considered;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/people skills in English (daily work language) & French (native/near-native) and knowledge of other languages to be considered a plus. Ability to explain complex issues in understandable language for non-scientific audiences and industry leaders internally and externally;
    • Request examples of previous work (ie. Ability to translate politics into business and business into politics);
  • Ability to listen and understand internal (VPs, Executive Board and various Business Units’ level) and external stakeholders, with a strong political acumen and ability to drive partnerships/coalitions;
  • Commercial drive to use public affairs and communication skills to grow the Group’s image & reputation;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiastic, motivated, and diplomatic attitude to take initiatives with a flexible mindset;
  • Team player and self-starter.
