About the ISN:  

Since its foundation in 1960, the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has pursued the worldwide advancement of education, science and patient care in nephrology.

The Society represents a wide international network and provides an efficient platform for timely scientific exchange, debate and dissemination between healthcare professionals around the world. It is also dedicated to addressing the disparity between the developing and developed worlds in the research, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney disease.

The ISN has 9000+ professional members from more than 160 countries. In addition, it closely collaborates with over 100+ national and regional nephrology societies worldwide, representing about 30,000 professionals. The ISN continues to develop and consolidate several programs, initiatives and partnerships that will help to further deliver on its two overarching goals: reducing the incidence and impact of kidney disease worldwide and making the society a leading international organisation for all issues related to the science and practice of nephrology.

 

Position offered:

ISN is currently looking to recruit its new Marketing and Communications Director, to become part of its global team.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in realising the mission of ISN, in particular:

  • Leading and supervising, with strategy and vision, the internal and external marketing and communications efforts both digital and in print;
  • Conceptualising and directing global projects and activities that assist ISN in advancing kidney health worldwide and all its various activities in education, grants, research, advocacy and events;
  • Leading and managing a highly qualified and driven team of 6;
  • Reporting directly to the Executive Director and being member of the Management team;

 

Main responsibilities & tasks:

Strategy, Planning & Budget

  • Develop and lead the implementation of global marketing and communications strategies that assist ISN in achieving its organizational objectives and helps maximize its message;
  • Lead the team in liaising with different departments to ensure that an integrated digital marketing and communications plan is in place to support the promotion of each department/activity (Education, Programs, Events, Advocacy, Membership).
  • As a full member of the Management Team, provide strategic advice, reporting and regular updating to ISN Executive Director, Leadership and Executive Committee as requested and appropriate;
  • Regularly assess and modify strategy based on analytics and tools; and assess and adapt performance and marketing tactics of communication plans accordingly.
  • Develop and oversee the ISN’s Marketing and Communications budget, ensuring that programmatic, strategic targets and deliverables are met on time and within budget.

 

Lead and coordinate the successful execution of Marketing and Communications strategy:

  • Develop and lead the execution of communication strategy for membership (renewal and retention campaigns) and events (in particular, for World Congress of Nephrology) departments.
  • Schedule the flow of external and internal communications across multiple channels, actively monitor analytics and assess/adapt strategy as needed
  • Creation and maintenance of marketing and promotional materials, both print and electronic.
  • Regularly review existing external/internal communications strategies and tools and advice on new and potential opportunities.
  • Organizational branding, including overseeing relationships with external vendors, Brand and style guidelines and policies for the organization.
  • The organisation’s visibility and presence at its own and stakeholder events, including event comms packages, booth design and development, and liaison with external vendors, Social media strategy

 

Team management and support

  • Manage and develop the team: setting individual career development goals and annual strategic priorities, including conducting annual evaluation and appraisal processes.
  • Identify tools to support project and team management.
  • Provide guidance and support to the team

 

Profile & key qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in a similar role
  • High proficiency in English – preferably mother tongue English with other languages considered an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (writing in a clear and concise manner across different communication channels/platforms)
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities and experience using project management tools
  • Experience managing publications and/or e-communication products calendar
  • “Digital native” and proficient user of of key marketing and communication softwares and tools (CMS, HTML, email marketing, google analytics, CRM, etc)
  • Proven track-record of successful marketing and branding campaigns
  • Proven experience creating targeted content
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Experience managing external vendors
  • Experience managing a small team
  • Strong social and presentation skills
  • Self-starter, energetic and pro-active
