About Global Public Affairs  

The Global Public Affairs function enables The Estée Lauder Companies to understand, anticipate, and manage the global political environment in which the company operates. In partnership with internal functions and subject matter experts, and supported by external consultants, the Global Public Affairs team develops strategies to leverage business opportunities, mitigate risk, and advance the interests of the company. The team is guided by the highest standards of professionalism and acts as a trusted interlocutor to a wide range of external stakeholders (i.e., governments, regulators, NGO’s, communities and trade associations) across the world.  The Global Public Affairs team is committed to ensuring that ELC maintains its position as the leader in prestige beauty. 

 

About the role  

The Senior Public Affairs Manager will report to the Director, Global Public Affairs EMEA to develop and execute the Public Affairs strategy to further advance The Estée Lauder Companies position and business interests in the region. This role will support internal experts and decision-makers’ understanding, appreciation and consideration of European public policies in order to inform corporate policy and business strategies. Together with the EMEA Public Affairs team, the Senior Public Affairs Manager, will represent the company’s point of view on relevant policies with external stakeholders.  The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter who can lead initiatives with both substance expertise and project management skills.  This role requires understanding of the political, social, and economic landscape of the EMEA region and a solid knowledge of the European Union and its institutional framework. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Monitor policy trends and developments in the region that are relevant to The Estée Lauder Companies’ business priorities and operations. 
  • Represent The Estée Lauder Companies with institutional and other external stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to industry discussions and positions in trade associations in which The Estée Lauder Companies is involved (e.g. Cosmetics Europe, AIM, Europen and AMCHAM EU).  
  • Analyze and assess potential implications of upcoming legislation or policy to identify risks and opportunities to inform the company’s position and actions. 
  • Ensure that the Senior Management and other departments or functions are well-informed and have a thorough understanding of the impact of relevant policy actions and decisions. 
  • Provide subject matter expertise to internal colleagues in legal, regulatory, communications, citizenship & sustainability, supply chain and R&D. 
  • Coordinate meetings and forums in support of the company’s Public Affairs agenda. 
  • Manage consultant relationships to ensure deliverables are effectively met within the agreed-upon timeframe and budget.  

 

Ideal candidate profile 

Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in European Affairs, European Law, Political Science or related field; 
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant EU public affairs experience engaging with the European Institutions, in particular with the European Parliament; 
  • Experience with current chemical/consumer goods/ environmental related legislative topics an advantage; 
  • Fluent in both written and conversational English is required; fluency in a second European language is an advantage.
