Job purpose 

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead and steer the external communications and public affairs department. You will contribute to the company’s growth by supporting the strategy and advocating the company’s role in the energy transition.  

 

Responsibilities 

  • You build an inspiring and efficient partnership with the CEO and the management team and act as a coach for effective communication; 
  • You act as a recognized business partner in order to establish an impactful communications strategy; 
  • You build and lead the External Communication and Public Affairs team; 
  • You develop and implement the company’s communication infrastructure and strategy; 
  • You are responsible for the corporate communications activities and their planning for the company;  
  • You develop a reputation framework with appropriate messaging and a powerful content creation process;  
  • You define success criteria to measure the effectiveness of media campaigns and public affairs activities;  
  • You overview the monthly planning of press activities and establish clear guidelines for interaction with the media; 
  • You oversee the digital communication strategy and the re-purposing of the content published on social media; 
  • You align your activities with those of the Internal & Change Communication team to ensure a consistent messaging; 
  • You are in charge of crisis communication management;  
  • You are responsible for Public Affairs management, representing the company and protecting its interests in energy, environment and climate policy within the political decision-making processes at regional, federal and European level. 

 

Profile 

  • Master’s degree, preferably with a focus on Communication, Economics, Management, Law or Public Policy. An MBA is a plus; 
  • Solid experience (15+) in an external communication and public affairs leadership role in a European context; 
  • Demonstrable influencing skills and strong strategic and political understanding; 
  • Ability to design a well-defined communications framework and make it evolve according to needs; 
  • Ability to lead a team in a transversal context and to set priorities in line with the strategy; 
  • Proven experience in crisis communication management;  
  • In-depth knowledge of the EU legislative processes as well as of the federal and regional institutions; 
  • Strong personal network at EU level. Additional network in the political world at national level highly desirable; 
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a constantly changing environment; 
  • A previous experience in an international and multi-cultural environment would be a strong asset; 
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch, French and English.
