Your role in the Association

MedTech Europe is the European trade association representing the medical technology industries, including medical devices, diagnostics and digital health.

As member of the Industrial Policies team, you will take a leading role in achieving MedTech Europe’s goals in a broad range of sustainability and environmental issues with a specific focus on EU chemicals legislation applicable to the medical technology industry, especially:

  • The REACH, POPs and Biocidal Products Regulations,
  • The ROHS, WEEE and Waste Framework Directives, plus relevant aspects of
  • Our sectorial product legislation, i.e., the Medical Devices Regulation 2017/745, the in vitro Diagnostic Medical Device Regulation 2017/746

In collaboration with the Senior Manager Environment and Sustainability, you will maintain and develop partnerships with stakeholders in EU institutions, follow regulatory activities closely and interact with the appropriate European stakeholders (regulators, industry, NGOs).

You will present and represent MedTech Europe members interests’ and initiatives at the level of the EU institutions and agencies, in particular the European Chemicals Agency.

 

Key areas of responsibility

Strategies & tactics

  • Together with the Senior Manager Environment and Sustainability, develop strategies to collect the members’ interests and advise on (and execute) successful tactics to ensure regulatory approaches that support members’ interests

Technical, scientific & regulatory affairs expertise

  • Drive activities that are in line with the association’s policies, procedures and practices
  • Provide regulatory and scientific advice to colleagues and members on the interpretation and application of chemicals legislation, with a focus on the latter’s potential legal and practical impact on members, patients and healthcare systems
  • Collect input from members and feed industry comments into responses to public consultations in the relevant policy domain
  • Suggest opportunities for new work items, advocacy and communication

Project management

  • Lead internal committees and working groups, together with their Chairs, to coordinate debate, build consensus and advise on possible successful regulatory strategies
  • Develop position papers and presentations to support projects and programmes
  • Provide direction and support to ensure successful externally advocacy of agreed industry positions, objectives and campaigns

Representation

  • Represent MedTech Europe and present its positions to external stakeholders, including at meetings with EU institutions;
  • Foster and maintain contacts with a network of key stakeholders, in particular within the EU institutions and agencies
  • Alert the MedTech Europe hierarchy and members to issues ahead of time

Communication

  • Respond to members’ and non-members’ requests for information
  • Communicate information on meetings, projects and programmes to MedTech Europe members and externally to identified stakeholders
  • Update internal extranet with new resources/tools, and post them to members

 

Experience and Education

  • Masters level education, preferably in natural sciences, legal or political sciences disciplines
  • Previous years of work experience, ideally in trade associations, environmental affairs, the healthcare industry, public administration or government
  • Compelling knowledge and command of EU regulations on chemicals, ideally with an appreciation for their impact on healthcare in general and medical technology in particular
  • Experience in leading or working in projects
  • Experience of or within the Brussels environment / EU institutions a plus
  • Fluent in English, other EU language(s) highly appreciated
