About the ISN:  

Since its foundation in 1960, the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has pursued the worldwide advancement of education, science and patient care in nephrology. The Society represents a wide international network and provides an efficient platform for timely scientific exchange, debate and dissemination between healthcare professionals around the world. It is also dedicated to building capacity in the research, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney disease.

The ISN has 10,000+ professional members from more than 160 countries. In addition, it closely collaborates with over 100+ national and regional nephrology societies worldwide, representing about 30,000 professionals. The ISN continues to develop and consolidate several programs, initiatives and partnerships that will help to further deliver on its two overarching goals: reducing the incidence and impact of kidney disease worldwide and making the society a leading international organization for all issues related to the science and practice of nephrology.

Position offered:

ISN is currently looking to recruit its new Education and Grants Director to become part of its dynamic global team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Executive Director and be a full member of the Management team. She/he will contribute to realizing ISN’s mission, in particular:

  • Conceptualizing and driving strategies to effectively support the training and development of kidney doctors, particularly those from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), by leading the capacity building portfolio that includes education and grants;
  • Providing strategic oversight of ISN’s education and grant activities, ensuring they align with ISN’s overall strategy and other educational goals;
  • Leading and managing the ISN Granting Programs and Academy (Education) teams, which comprise 6 highly qualified and driven professionals.

Main responsibilities & tasks:

  • Strategic leadership & budgeting
    • Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive strategy for ISN educational programs, and grants that align with ISN’s mission and strategic objectives;
    • Identify emerging needs in nephrology education and training and integrate them in ISN’s overall educational offerings;
    • Assess the impact of e-learning activities and granting programs and provide recommendations to ensure their relevance and efficiency in evolving contexts;
    • Liaise with other internal departments, especially Membership, Finance, Events and MarComs to ensure cohesive strategy implementation and alignment across the organization;
    • As a full member of the Management Team, provide strategic advice, reporting and regular updates to the ISN Executive Director, Leadership, Executive Committee and Council as requested and appropriate, highlighting programmatic opportunities, outcomes and impact;
    • Develop and manage the budget for the ISN Academy and granting programs, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Global networks and partnerships development
    • Work closely with a global network of leaders and volunteers to ensure the quality, consistency and maximum impact of ISN’s educational and granting activities;
    • Build and maintain collaborations with global, regional and local partners to expand the reach and impact of ISN’s educational and granting programs.
  • Team leadership and development
    • Manage and develop the ISN Academy and ISN Granting Programs teams (comprising 2 and 4 members, respectively);
    • Set annual strategic objectives and individual development goals for team members, conducting regular evaluations and appraisal processes;
    • Identify and implement tools to support effective project and team management;
    • Provide guidance and support to the team.

Profile & key qualifications:

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in a similar role preferably, with a non-profit organization;
  • High proficiency in English, with other languages considered an advantage;
  • Strong strategic leadership and team management abilities;
  • Proven ability to build networks and cultivate strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders globally;
  • Proven track record of designing and leading successful global education and e-learning initiatives preferably in the healthcare sector;
  • Experience leading global granting programs is an asset.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences;
  • Innovative thinker with a commitment to continuous improvement;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-starter, energetic, and pro-active.
