About the Context

Based in Brussels, the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) is seeking a Director of Market Insight, Data & Analytics to lead and expand its research and data collection and analysis activities.

EFAMA is the voice of the EUR 33 trillion European investment management industry. Its role is to promote the interests of the membership and raise awareness of the importance of the services and solutions they provide.

EFAMA’s secretariat is the primary source for statistical data on the European fund and asset management industry.

Its flagship publications, the EFAMA Fact Book and Asset Management Report, are the go-to references for information on the evolution of the European fund and asset management industry.

Through its Market Insights series, the team analyses recent industry trends and developments based on the latest available data and presents the findings in the context of current policy perspectives.

EFAMA is committed to evidence-based advocacy and seek to develop its research activities further to support its regulatory policy work.

About the Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director-General, the Director, Market Insight, Data & Analytics, leads, designs, and delivers EFAMA’s ambitious research and statistics programme.

Key responsibilities

  • Developing and executing the association’s research and statistics programme, taking account of EFAMA’s current and future policy priorities
  • Further increasing the Association’s profile in the investment management research space
  • Leading and overseeing the 3-strong team analysing data and trends in EU investment management and producing evidence-based insight to support EFAMA’s policy agenda
  • High quality assurance and soundness of all EFAMA research, statistics, and analysis
  • Drafting authoritative reports, and creating thought-leadership content, on investment management trends
  • Developing relevant partnerships with academia, international organisations and think tanks
  • Liaising with key officials at international bodies and EU authorities on investment management research and data
  • Representing the Association in external fora
  • Coordinating the work of the Association’s Economics & Research Committee
  • As a member of the management team, advising and actively supporting the Director General on all matters pertaining to the well-functioning of the Association and the implementation of its strategic objectives

About the Requirements

  • At least a Master-level degree in Economics/Finance/Statistics or another relevant degree with a strong, numerical and/or quantitative focus
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, ideally in the financial services industry or a think thank
  • Excellent research, numerical, and analytical skills, including a background in delivering both quantitative and qualitative research
  • A proven ability to work with financial/macro-economic databases and significant experience in ensuring data quality and accuracy
  • A demonstrable understanding of the role of research and statistics in underpinning policy & public affairs asks
  • Co-authorship of thought-leadership pieces and peer-reviewed research publications
  • People management experience
  • Strong project management and organisational skills – with the ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
  • An excellent command of English with a proven ability to write reports
  • A personality and approach that are highly proactive, self-motivated, result-oriented, creative, enthusiastic, and collaborative
  • Effective presentation skills and confidence to present to various audiences and media
  • Knowledge of the investment management industry is a distinct advantage
