Prospero & Partners is looking for a full-time Communications Manager to complement its consultancy team. Prospero & Partners is a management consultancy that helps food and agriculture organizations create value sustainably. They help clients fulfil their untapped potential with fresh approaches to strategy & sustainability, leadership & engagement and culture & change.

The Communications Manager creates an operational plan for and delivers internal and external communications across all media for two of Prospero’s association clients (EBIC-European Biostimulants Industry Council and ECOFI-European Consortium of the Organic-Based Fertilizer Industry), in line with each organisations’ strategies.

The Communications Manager ensures that:

  • internal communications support the effectiveness of the groupwork and coordination of the member communities; and
  • both internal and external communications support the associations’ external engagement strategies.



The Communications Manager plans, project-manages, ensures delivery and measures the effectiveness of work across the following two domains:

Internal communications for association clients: This domain comprises a range of internal communications tools, processes and initiatives for association clients, including:

  • the EBIC and ECOFI Member Updates;
  • the EBIC and ECOFI intranets;
  • any other system-wide internal communications not typically disseminated via the preceding tools;
  • relevant internal communications for the EBIC EU/National Collaboration Frameworks.


External communications for association clients: This domain comprises a range of external communications tools, channels and campaigns, including:

  • the EBIC and ECOFI public websites;
  • all social media for EBIC and ECOFI;
  • roll-out of any issue-specific external communications for EBIC and ECOFI;
  • any other external communications not typically disseminated via the preceding tools;
  • relevant external communications for the EBIC EU/National Collaboration Frameworks.

Key accountabilities:

The Communications Manager is accountable for delivering the following, across both internal and external communications for Prospero’s association clients:

  • Detailed and thorough content planning and scheduling of all internal and external communications tools, processes and initiatives.
  • Ensuring the content planning and scheduling is aligned with and supports key milestones and tactics in the EBIC and ECOFI annual work plans.
  • Ensuring real-time updating of schedules and project plans in Asana (our task and project management system) so that the person(s) to whom the role holder reports and colleagues can see the status of work as and when needed.
  • Ensuring that all content, across all tools, channels and campaigns is appropriately up-to-date, accurate and relevant and reflects the association’s house style — both in terms of visual identity and linguistic style.
  • Drafting of any concise, straightforward content that the Communications Manager can produce independently, while meeting minimum standards of professionalism regarding grammar, spelling, and clarity of expression.
  • Developing of briefs for and timely commissioning of more complex information and/or ready-to-publish content from the appropriate internal team members and external writers.
  • Development of briefs for and management of the services of any external providers supporting the the execution of internal and external communications. This includes identifying the need for external support and potential candidates, screening possible suppliers, selecting the most appropriate supplier(s) for each project, and overseeing their delivery.
  • The Communications Manager has accountability for managing the communications budget within the framework of the annual work plans and budget of each client organisation.
  • Ensuring execution of relevant internal communications for the EBIC and ECOFI EU/National Collaboration Frameworks.
  • Periodic measurement of the effectiveness of all communications conducted on behalf of EBIC and ECOFI, ensuring any necessary adjustments are then made to planning, content and delivery.



  • The successful candidate is likely to have between 6-10 years of experience
  • Capable of working at a native level in English to conceive and draft complex documents,
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations, including the capacity to analyse texts and extract key messages. This applies both to the ability to produce written material to an acceptable standard and to oversee and edit other writers as needed.
  • Experience in communications to support engagement with policy makers and other stakeholders particularly at the European policy level.
  • Have experience and skills in key message development and definition of narrative arcs.
  • Have experience in integrating social media, web, and multimedia into communications strategies as well as the use of metrics to monitor and tweak effectiveness.
  • Be conversant with graphic design and able to act as the art director for creative projects executed by external agencies and to be able to execute simple graphic elements in-house where appropriate.
  • Have a successful track record of project management, including developing briefs for and managing external suppliers as well as ensuring that colleagues provide input and feedback in a timely manner.
  • Be familiar with agriculture, the use of crop inputs, and the political and societal issues related to their use.
  • Being able to work in French, Spanish, Italian and/or German or any other European languages would be beneficial.
  • The successful candidate does not have to be based near Brussels but is likely to have extensive work experience in European policy circles and to understand how “Brussels works.”
