About EFAMA

The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA), based in Brussels, is looking for a Policy Advisor with a focus on Capital Markets topics to strengthen their team. The candidate will also display some familiarity with technological developments being applied in areas of the financial industry.

EFAMA is the voice of the EUR 28,4tn European investment management industry. As a trade association, their role is to promote the interests of their members and raise awareness of the importance of the services and solutions they provide to help citizens achieve their financial goals and support the European economy.

 

About the Responsibilities

The Policy Advisor will monitor, analyse and engage on regulatory issues relating to post-trade activities in capital markets. The role will cover traditional areas such as trade and transaction reporting and, as needed, other aspects of the clearing and settlement chain.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to build a greater footprint for the association’s members on digital files such as MiCA, DLT pilot and tokenisation of assets and funds.

As a task force and working group coordinator, they will work closely with EFAMA members and industry representatives to identify priorities, develop robust industry positions and draft appropriate narratives. They will build and maintain a network of trusted relationships within EU authorities and other public and private organisations. They will engage with EU policymakers and national regulators at various levels to represent the interests of the industry and contribute to inform the legislative debate, while participating in various conferences and events to actively promote the views of EFAMA.

  • Monitoring EU and international regulatory developments likely to have a significant impact on the EU investment management industry, alerting members at an early stage, while also providing initial analyses of such developments;
  • Building a coherent view on digital files across the EFAMA membership, through close bilateral interactions, seeking out views from members to map the key priorities in the digital space;
  • Engaging in a constructive dialogue with policy-makers and regulators to represent the views of EFAMA’s members and promote sensible regulation and fair competition conditions for the industry, and participate in various events to actively promote the views of our industry;
  • Building and maintaining a network of trusted relationships within EU authorities and other public and private organisations;
  • Evaluating the results of EFAMA’s actions, reporting to members in a timely manner and drawing lessons for the future; and
  • Engaging with the media to present EFAMA’s views, positions and activities (i.e. media interviews and speaking opportunities at events and panels).

 

About the Requirements

  • Master’s university degree in Law, European studies, Economics (or other relevant area), with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant professional experience;
  • In terms of prior policy experience:
    • either a good understanding of capital markets functioning and trade life cycle with experience within the asset management industry; OR
    • demonstrable prior exposure to fintech and digital policy files, including aspects related to tokenisation, blockchain technology/DLT, crypto assets and CBDC.
  • Ability to quickly absorb and synthetise complex information;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Highly proactive, self-motivated, result-oriented, creative and enthusiastic;
  • Strong team spirit and inter-personal skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and presentational;
  • Native/near native-level English speaker;
  • An understanding of the EU’s policy-making process and/or of the investment.
